Memorial information

Description

The 8th/9th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (8/9 RAR) was formed in 1973 when the 8th and 9th battalions were amalgamated. The battalion was based at the Enoggera Barracks until it was disbanded in 1997 amid a number of Defence-wide government cutbacks. It was reformed in 2006 as part of an initiative to expand the size of the Australian Army. The motto of this Battalion is “Duty First” and their mascot is a Merino Ram named John MacArthur VII (aka Stan the Ram).
