Memorial information
Description
Formerley situated outside the Amberley State School, this memorial was re-located in 2010/2011 to the new site in the memorial gardens on the Royal Australian Air Force Base (RAAF) Amberley.
The honour stone is positioned on a two tiered plinth and stepped concrete base.A German mortar and shell sit atop the memorial as a symbol of courage and sacrifice. The 'war trophy' mortar was presented after the Great War from a collection gathered by Australian Forces on the Western Front. The shell however is not the original item as it was stolen, but is a fine replica.
Two marble panels list the names of servicemen who served in both WWI and WWII. In the case of the 23 WWI service personnel listed, 5 died on active service. In addition, 2 WWII personnel died as Prisoners of War (POW) from the original 19 who enlisted.
On the first tier plinth of the memorial, there is an inscription to the Amberley Boys who fought in the Great War 1914-1919
