Memorial information

Description

The centrepiece of the memorial is a large pictorial fabricated from metal (9 metres wide). It depicts 2 soldiers: one soldier is resting on reversed arms, the other holding a bugle. Both soldiers are silhouetted against a sun setting below the horizon. The phrases, “At The Going Down Of The Sun And In The Morning” and “We Will Remember Them” are cut into the steel and can clearly be seen against the sunset. The steel structure is mounted atop a gabion wall. Across the front of the gabion wall are two small gardens populated with Rosemary. A Stainless-Steel Commemorative Plaque is situated in the centre of the monument between the Rosemary gardens. The details on the plaque include the ‘Ode of Remembrance’. The memorial is situated at the end of the tree line near the Aramac Airport. The location is peaceful, and provides a place where people can reflect and remember. It is orientated towards the setting sun as an affirmation of remembrance in accordance with the Ode.
