Memorial information

Description

The only war memorial of its type in Queensland. An ornate clock tower, 12 feet high, made of marble and resting on granite stepped base. Recessed plates of finer marble bear the leaded name of the 292 locals, who served in WWI. The lower section of the clock tower is ornamented with simulated masonry blocks. At the top is a 4-faced electric clock which is illuminated at night. Around the faces of the clock are carved laurel wreaths and foliage is carved in the lower corners of each face. The clock tower has a dome-shaped cap with a band of cable ornament. There is a leaded unveiling inscription of the lower step of the clock tower. The WWI memorial was damaged in a storm and the clocks were replaced late 1992.
