Memorial information

Description

The memorial was relocated from Gordon Street to Herbert Street. The memorial stands on a granite base with a low granite fence, set into paving which connects both traffic lanes. The sandstone digger stands with head bowed and arms reversed atop a clock tower. The clocks were damaged in a cyclone in 1958 and have not been replaced.

Inscription

The inscription on the front plaque reads: Erected by the citizens of Bowen in honour of those who fell in the Great War 1914-1919. Their name liveth for evermore. We shall remember them.

The plaques list the names of 53 WWI soldiers, 28 WWII and 4 Vietnam campaign.
