Memorial information
Description
The memorial comprises a tall red granite column rising from a massive granite and trachyte pedestal and crowned by a marble ionic capital and life-sized statue of an Australian soldier. The statue stands head bowed, arms reversed and carrying a backpack. The total height is 38 feet. The pedestal bears the cut and gilded names of one local soldier who served in the South Africa (or Boer) War and the 277 who served in WWI. Commemorative plates for later conflicts have been added to the pedestal. The monument is surrounded by concrete kerbing.
