Memorial information

Description

Monument features a full-sized soldier looking ahead, with arms reversed. A flagpole is behind the memorial, which is set in a park in the centre of town.

Inscription

Inscription on all sides under feet of digger reads: Pro Deo Pro Rege Pro Patria (for God, for King, for Country). Main inscription at base of memorial reads: Erected by the people of Crows Nest in honour of those who served in the Great War 1914–1918. A plaque headed In Memoriam lists 30 names for 1914–1918 war, and 25 names for 1939–1945 war, including those of French, J, V.C., and French G (his brother Gordon who was killed in the RAAF over Germany). A further 152 names of soldiers who returned form World War I are listed on plaques around the memorial, including Rev A A Mills.
