Memorial to commemorate the loss of Lockheed Hudson A16-27 and six aircrew of No. 23 (City of Brisbane) Squadron on 12 August 1940.

Memorial is in process with expected dedication on 12 August 2026.

COMMEMORATING THE DISAPPEARANCE OF RAAF No. 23 (City of Brisbane) SQUADRON LOCKHEED HUDSON A16-27 ON 12th AUGUST 1940

The Lockheed Hudson A16-27 of No. 23 Squadron crossed the Brisbane shoreline near this point on 12 August 1940, heading out to sea on a navigation training exercise. It was last seen flying east from Point Lookout, North Stradbroke Island, before disappearing into cloud. No further contact was received and to this day the fate of A16-27 remains unknown. The six aircrew on board tragically became No. 23 Squadron’s first World War II casualties:
