Memorial information

Description

This memorial is in the form of a fountain, which symbolically signifies new birth or regeneration. A white marble brick wall with a propeller attached forms the backdrop support, with four plaques attached to the front left corner of the wall, identifying accidents that took place at the aerodrome, and a dedication plaque in front.

Inscription

THIS AERODROME PLAYED A DECISIVE PART IN KEEPING AUSTRALIA FREE FROM INVASION DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR - 1939 - 45.
ALLIED AIRCRAFT FROM THE 19TH AND 43RD BOMBARDMENT GROUPS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY AIRFORCE AND FROM THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE LAUNCHED AN AIR OFFENSIVE AGAINST THE JAPANESE INVADERS IN JUNE/JULY, 1942.
