Memorial information

Description

Silky oak Honour Board that hangs within the Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum. The lettering on the board is completed in relief also using silky oak timber. The names listed represent those from the Maryborough region who served in the Boer War. There are 36 names recorded and it is interesting to note the many names of European origin and the related individuals.

A small dedication plaque at the base of the board recognises the efforts of Ernie Blackwell, 12th November 2005.

The additional image of the badges on either side of the Honour Board indicate units that served during this conflict:

The badge on the left is that worn by the Queensland soldiers in the first six contingents whilst it was still the Queensland Defence Force. The badge on the right is the Australian Commonwealth Horse which was worn by all Australian troops after Federation.
Smaller titles were worn with the respective badges and were worn on the shoulder of the uniform to designate Regiments or Squadrons.
