Memorial information

Description

The Memorial Gates at Pinkenba State School commemorate the individuals of the area and consequently students of the school who served within Australia's military forces during World War II.

The memorial gates consist of four pillars, with the central two and tallest pillars flanking the school driveway. The space is closed by a wrought iron gate.

Smaller brick pillars on the outside of these, provide support for pedestian gateways. Both the main and pedestrian gateways exhibit decorative scroll work and geometric design.

A wrought iron arch straddles the space, exhibiting the wording 1939 Memorial 1945. Small flag poles project from the top of the pillars.

On each front aspect of the central pillars a commemorative Roll of Honour panel has been inserted. The left panel commemorates 2 individuals who died in the service and 45 others. The right panel is in duplicate form, with additional names.

Connections to the school and Pinkenba community are evident in the form of the multiple sets of the same family name on the panels.
