Description

Sandstone block set vertically within a sandstone and concrete mosaic base. The cast bronze plaque is attached to the front of the sandstone block.

Inscription

MARCH OF THE DUNGAREES 25th NOV. 1915

The original patriotic march started with 28 marchers

from Warwick on 16th November 1915.

They made their way through Allora, Toowoomba,

Gatton, Rosewood and on to Ipswich.

On arrival in Brisbane their numbers had swelled to

125 and they were greeted by some 30,000 people.

This monument is a memorial to those original

Dungarees and to the Re-enactment that passed

this way on 21st April 1998.

"The war was fought and the war was won

And the Dungarees did their best

They returned to the country of their birth

All heroes with the rest"
