Memorial information

Description

This is the first of four similar Honour Boards on a wall in the Merrington Memorial Peace Chapel within the church. The Board is constructed of maple and silky oak and the impressive facade lists the names of 50 individuals from the congregation who enlisted and in some cases died during the Great War 1914-1919. The Board exhibits gold, blue and black painted text, with a banner arrangement at the top. The single name at the top is followed by extra names, listed in two equal columns, showing military rank although they are not in rank order. The fate of those who died or were wounded is designated to the left of some of the names: 7 killed in action, 2 died of wounds, and 18 wounded in action. The list also included members who served in other Commonwealth Forces during the war.
