Toowoomba Naval Memorial

Dedicated to the members of the Royal Australian Navy and Allied fleets who have defended our land in times of peril, and unveiled by Vice Admiral Rodney Taylor, OA, RAN, Chief of Naval Staff, and dedicated by Senior Naval Chaplain Graeme Adsett, Toowoomba, on Sunday 26 March 1995. The Admiralty pattern anchor is that of the de-commissioned anti-submarine frigate HMAS Parramatta, and was refurbished and mounted by craftsmen of RAEME at Oakey Army Aviation Base. The name of HMAS Toowoomba will be perpetuated in the seventh of the Anzac Class frigates being built, due to be commissioned in 2002. The memorial is to commemorate all those from the Darling Downs who served at sea when the country was in peril, not only in the Royal Australian Navy, but in the Merchant Navy, and to those members of kindred fleets who came to our aid when needed. Catafalque party was mounted by young men and women from the Brisbane unit of the RANR cadets.
