Memorial information

Description

The memorial is a large octagonal mausoleum of brown Helidon sandstone with arches on four sides. On the external corner panels are inscribed the names, originally gilt, of the c161 local war dead. Memorial lettering forms a frieze around the entablature. The mausoleum has a domed roof surmounted by a bronze lantern with a red electric light terminal illuminated at night and visible from a distance. The structure stands on a raised platform of Brisbane tuff, with steps at each side. Inside is a floor of red and green concrete with a leaded marble commemorative plaque in the centre. Moulded laurel wreath ornament encircles the ceiling inside.
