Memorial information

Description

The Queensland War Memorial Register acknowledges the recent major damage that occurred to this significant memorial.

The obelisk has an Australian Army rising sun carved at its base and the word Woodend. The memorial seems to have been erected or repaired in several sections - the obelisk section at the top is different from the main body of the memorial, and the white stepped base is different again. The name plaques are of a modern design not in keeping with the rest of the memorial. A flagpole stands to the right of the memorial. The memorial is positioned on a paved section with landscaped ardens behind.

Inscription

The plaque reads:

Honours Her Boys who enlisted in the Great War 1914 to 1919. Erected by the Woodend Progress Association. Name plaques list 71 names. Of these 11 are marked with a K for killed, and 1 Died of illness, a total of 12 deaths. Two were awarded the Military Medal, including one who was killed. Names are not in alphabetical order.
