100th anniversary - March of the Dungarees
November 16, 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the March of the Dungarees, a recruitment march that started in Warwick and continued through Allora, Clifton, Greenmount, Cambooya, Toowoomba, Helidon, Gatton, Laidley, Rosewood, Ipswich, eventually finishing in Brisbane. As they passed through each town the number of recruits grew, starting with 28 men and finishing with 125 as they marched through the streets of Brisbane. Overall the recruits travelled 160 miles (257 kms).
As part of the Queensland Anzac Centenary program, the Queensland Government has announced a series of events across South East Queensland from 29 November 2015 to commemorate this anniversary.
Below are a series of images from State Library of Queensland's collection documenting the March of the Dungarees.
