The Nurses Memorial Candlelight Vigil, on the eve of Anzac Day, pays tribute to all nurses who have served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Held at the Nurses’ Memorial at Anzac Square, this moving service acknowledges the important contribution of nurses over the more than 125 years in which Australia has been involved in conflicts. The Vigil also commemorates nursing more widely.
The Centaur Memorial Fund for Nurses and Defence Service Nurses RSL Sub Branch Queensland combine to deliver the Nurses Vigil. The Vigil ensures that the service and sacrifices of Australian nurses during times of peace and conflict is remembered. This event is proudly supported by the Queensland Government.
Everyone is welcome to attend this event, more information here.
Prior to the vigil from 5-5:30 pm a free talk highlighting some of the remarkable Queensland nurses in the Australian Army Nursing Service during World War II, will be held in the Anzac Square Memorial Galleries. Secure your seat here.
The Memorial Galleries will also be open until 6 pm for those wishing to visit before the vigil commences in the parklands.
